A new day, a new adventure. Today we planned a cultural day to explore the multiple temples that were in the area of our hostel. Three temples have been visited and an old village. The first temple on our list was the Jongmyo temple. This temple had an very interesting path that guided ghosts to all of the buildings. Since this path was only available to the spirits, ordinary people could not walk on it. It was really impressive to see because of the Eastern religion. Western religions mostly focus on only one god, but the Koreans tend to honor multiple different spirits.
Secondly, we visited a castle called ‘ Changdeokgung’ . Here the royal family lived and ruled the country, still some parts are used of it nowadays.
Temples are not the only special buildings that we saw, we also visited Bukchon hanok, an old village. After lunch we explored a special route which showed very interesting buildings and houses including some museums.
The most special location was saved for last, namely the palace of Gyeongbokgung. The buildings and paintings showed a lot of beauty.
We ended the day with a dinner together. This dinner was served to us in an traditional Korean BBQ restaurant. Pork and beef was served to us by a very kind gentlemen who also showed us a lot of traditional drinks and tricks on how to serve beer.
However, we still had a pub crawl planned in the evening for the people we were feeling like going out. We ended up at an club which had live music of small local Korean bands. We enjoyed a final dance together and had a fun evening!
