Finished study trip case

May 20, 2018 | ExplorAsia

There are only seven weeks to go and then we will fly to South-Korea. At the moment the students are still working for their committee, the machine learning course and their case. This all needs to be done next to the regular study load. Each student needs to do a case at a company. This case takes between fifty and hundred hours. Doing this case is a very good opportunity to work for a company on a professional level. Additionally, the money earned with these cases will be used for the study trip.

While many have not yet finished their case, some have. Jeroen and Hessel for example. They were assigned to work with the Bedrijvendagen, a corporate contact event host on the University of Twente. Bedrijvendagen hosts an event every year where over 150 companies all try to promote their company to students on the UT. This allows the students to see what kind of opportunities and careers are available after they graduate or even during their studies. Bedrijvendagen asked the study trip foundation to provide two people who could work on an iOS and Android version of an application that would allow the 150 attending companies to scan the students’ QR codes that they wear with them. By scanning this code, the personal details, like name, email address and study, are saved in a database. After the event has finished, automatic emails are sent from each company to the people that had themselves signed up for that company with further information and contact details in case they want to know more or have direct interest or questions.

Doing this case was a great work experience for Jeroen and Hessel. Besides learning about app development in Android and iOS, they worked closely together with an IT company and learned about team functioning, designer-company communication, project-based employment,  prototyping, planning, contracts, meetings, information flow and working in a hierarchy. After the case, the two students were also asked to work on the Bedrijvendagen itself at the IT helpdesk. Images of the app they made can be seen below.
